What this masterclass covers

Wreaths are one of the most technically demanding floral forms to get right. The circular structure requires consistent tension, balanced visual weight, and an understanding of how different materials behave once attached to a base.

What this course covers

Participants work through three distinct wreath types over the course duration: a fresh foliage base, a dried botanical composition, and a mixed-media piece combining preserved flowers with natural elements such as seed pods, bark, and lichen. Each project introduces a different attachment method and a different approach to achieving visual balance without symmetry.

Material selection and sourcing

A significant portion of the course addresses material preparation. Dried flowers behave differently depending on how and when they were harvested. We look at which species hold colour and structure reliably, which tend to crumble under handling, and how to condition fresh materials before working with them. Participants receive a sourcing guide covering both commercial suppliers and forageable alternatives by season.

Design principles applied to circular form

Colour distribution, focal point placement, and negative space all function differently in a circular composition than in a linear arrangement. These differences are discussed in direct relation to the work being produced, not as abstract theory.

The course runs across four sessions of three hours each. All base materials are provided. Participants are encouraged to bring any dried or preserved botanicals they have collected personally, as working with self-sourced materials is part of the learning process.
